This document defines the scope of CPA access included in the Advisory Support Services retainer. Advisor access is allocated monthly by tier designation (Gold / Silver / Bronze) as determined by IPG leadership. All services are subject to scheduling and advance notice requirements. Requests should be brought to IPG Accounting's attention during assigned office hours or as previously arranged.

  • General depreciation concepts (Section 179, bonus depreciation): conceptual discussion
  • Fixed asset questions: capitalization vs. expense, useful life, basis concepts

RETIREMENT & BENEFITS

  • General pros and cons of retirement plan types (SEP-IRA, SIMPLE, 401k, solo 401k, defined benefit)
  • Contribution limit overviews and general eligibility rules
  • RMD concepts and general distribution tax treatment questions
  • General Roth vs. traditional trade-off discussion

ENTITY & BUSINESS STRUCTURE

  • General pros and cons of entity types (LLC, S-corp, C-corp, partnership): conceptual overview
  • Self-employment tax concepts and how entity type affects it generally

TAX CONCEPTS & STRATEGY

  • Capital gain and loss overview: short vs. long-term, general rates
  • General pass-through income concepts (QBI deduction overview)
  • General education on tax brackets, marginal vs. effective rate questions
  • Charitable giving strategies: QCDs, bunching, and DAFs at a conceptual level
  • Home office deduction: general rules and eligibility concepts
  • Deductibility of general business expenses: meals, entertainment, employee events, and similar items

PRIOR YEAR REVIEW

  • High-level review of a prior year tax return to identify potential missed opportunities: discussion only
  • General review of a client's tax situation to inform financial planning recommendations

  • Scheduled touchpoints throughout the year to stay ahead of issues
  • Timely updates on tax law or accounting changes that affect your business
  • Your team is available to answer questions and think proactively on your behalf

TAX RETURN WORK

  • Preparation of any federal or state individual or business tax return
  • Amending a prior year return for any reason, including missed opportunities
  • Filing elections of any kind (S-corp election, accounting method change, etc.)
  • Extension preparation or filing

PROJECTIONS & PLANNING ENGAGEMENTS

  • Tax projections or estimated tax calculations for any specific client
  • Multi-year tax planning strategies with modeled outcomes
  • Written tax opinions or formal memoranda
  • Entity structure change analysis with calculations or implementation steps

ENTITY & BUSINESS STRUCTURE

  • S-corporation election analysis, filing, or timing recommendations for a specific client
  • Business purchase or sale tax structuring, including asset vs. stock deal analysis and purchase price allocation
  • Like-kind exchange (1031) transaction structuring or review

DIVORCE & LEGAL MATTERS

  • Any consultation related to divorce decrees, QDRO treatment, or asset division
  • Tax planning in connection with a divorce proceeding

PROJECTIONS & PLANNING ENGAGEMENTS

  • IRS or state correspondence, notices, and related response work
  • Audit representation before the IRS or any state taxing authority

COMPLIANCE & BOOKKEEPING

  • Bookkeeping, reconciliations, or financial statement preparation

  • Sales tax analysis or filings

WHEN DOES SOMETHING BECOME A SEPARATE ENGAGEMENT?

A matter moves beyond the retainer when it involves:

  • A specific client's facts requiring written analysis or calculations;
  • Any filing, election, or amendment;
  • An ongoing compliance obligation;
  • IRS or state agency representation;
  • Legal matters including divorce; or
  • Complexity requiring research beyond general practitioner knowledge.

When in doubt, IPG Accounting will flag the issue and issue a separate engagement letter before work begins.

SCHEDULING & ACCESS

All retainer services are subject to scheduling and availability. Requests should be submitted in advance and are best addressed during your assigned office hours. Ad hoc inquiries outside of scheduled time may be accommodated at IPG Accounting's discretion but are not guaranteed. Please plan accordingly and bring agenda items to your scheduled time whenever possible.

All specific client information discussed during retainer hours remains confidential.
